Lunardi's latest has UR as a 6 seed. Let's say they win the A10 tourney, could they jump to a 4 seed? I know that depends on how other tournaments play out, but their chances with a 4 seed would be very exciting. Possibly a Sweet 16 givin' #5 seeds' past successes! All that being said, hope they're not "rewarded" with a 5 seed.
ReplyDeleteI think a jump to 4 would be extremely difficult and they would need a lot of help. On teamrankings.com UR is still only #35, which would translate to a #9 seed. I think there is just too much ground to make up. I think a 5 is probably where they top out, but even a 6 would provide a good chance to make a sweet 16. 8 or 9 is the important thing to avoid. Also remember than Lunardi prides himself on getting the teams "in" right, not necessarily seeding. Even on the "ins", he has made substantial changes at the last minute (suspicious in my book). Example - right now he has Illinois in - no way. They'll have to make a good Big 10 tourney run to get in.
ReplyDeleteI agree an 8 or 9 seed is definitely the seed to avoid. Another thing, I hate that the A10 changed their tournament format. In my opinion, there's really no reward for finishing in the top 4. 3 days is more than enough time for these kids to recover before the next game. I do however like that the Spiders play UMASS as opposed to Charlotte. Though they took UR to OT at UR their below 500 record is not threatening at all.
ReplyDeleteA bye is not a reward? That's all you can ask for. I don't mind the rest that UMass and the others get, the first round is treated as a play-in game, tomorrow the real tournament starts. UR didn't have to "play-in". I don't like that the championship in Sunday. I do like that the first round wasn't in AC. Often the first round winner has seen the court and gotten a win and feels good going against a bye team. UMass will have no such advantage. UR should take care of the Minutemen.
ReplyDeleteNow that all the bubble teams have fallen apart, there have been no conference championsh who are "stealing" a bid from an at large team, and it looks like Illinois is going to spank Wisconsin, I suppose the Fighting Illini will get in.
